How to Obtain Youth Job Opportunities in Acadia National Park

This article is for students who want to work during their summer vacation  in Acadia National Park. The pay varies from job to job. And these jobs are also open for college students as well as recent graduates. Park uniforms are also provided. Be sure to get in your application early, jobs in Acadia are quickly filled.

  1. Join the Acadia Youth Conservation Corps (AYCC). You must be between 15 - 18 years of age and in High school to qualify for this job in Acadia. You will be helping improve Acadia's trails and carriage roads, clear vista's and help out in other areas. The AYCC program runs from between mid June to early August. These  jobs in Acadia are limited, so sign up early.


  2. Go on-line and do some research from your computer. Learn about the AYCC so you will be informed if contacted by them over the phone. Being informed shows you are serious about obtaining a job in Acadia.


  3. Let them know this is something you really want to do. You will be helping improve Acadia's trails and carriage roads, clear vista's and help out in other areas. The AYCC program runs from between mid June to early August.

  5. Make sure you apply early in the year, and if you get turned down for one position, quickly apply for one of the other jobs in Acadia in this list.


  6. Contact the Park to apply for a job in Acadia to become a Park Ranger. Open to high school students, college students, and beyond.


  7. If a student, get your name in well before the next tourist season begins. Wear a Park Ranger uniform while on the job in Acadia and help guide visitors, or answer questions at the visitors center and nature center. Students are usually hired by March and work throughout the summer.


  8. Let them know if you will be in need of housing. They offer some housing that includes things like an electric stove, refrigerator and microwave. Sometimes they assign free tent sites as well.

  10. Put your name in to become a National Park Service intern. I would suggest you do a little internet research on these jobs, so when asked if you know what the job involves, you can sound like you did your home work. Showing a strong interest in these jobs will get you a long ways toward landing a seasonal job in Acadia.


  11. Begin a new summer job working along side park staff as they put on education programs for kids, and help monitor animals and plants within the park. These jobs are open to high school students, college students, and beyond.


  12. Inquire about housing. Where will you be staying while there doing your intern? Will you be getting a doom room type place to stay with some appliances or will you be staying in an assigned  campsite?

  14. Place your name in for a job in Acadia as a Student Conservation Association Intern.


  15. Assist with ranger led programs or work with the fire staff. These jobs in acadia are open to college students and beyond. They also make great training for landing a future job with the Park service.

There are all kinds of jobs here in Maine on Mount Desert Island, but most are seasonal. And many of those jobs are filled in advance by people from other countries. Currently offering two jobs in the office handling reservations and signing people in. Maintenance Persons needed for fixing minor repairs, painting, mowing, etc. Each job is for 20 hours of work in exchange for a free site.
